Continental : Dowling returns as new GM for Manufacturing

There is no doubting the fact that JJ Dowling is so passionate about working for Continental Tyre South Africa (CTSA) as he recently returned to a company where he actually started his career in 1996 as a student studying Rubber Technology.

Dowling was recently appointed as the new General Manager for Manufacturing  at Continental’s Port Elizabeth plant where he replaced former GM, Wayne Brown, who has moved on to take another responsibility at Continental Tyre in the United States.

Dowling’s long association with Continental saw him serve as the Plant Manager for Continental Tyre in Alor Setar, Malaysia, a position he occupied for the past four years before his recent return.

Managing Director , Continental Tyre SA, Shaun Uys, is quite excited to welcome Dowling back to South Africa.

“It’s fantastic to welcome JJ Dowling back to the Continental Tyre SA family, after heading up the plant in Malaysia.

“The tyre industry, and the manufacturing business in general, is extremely competitive and challenging, and we’re confident that JJ will impart his wealth of experience with the team as we strive for greater efficiencies, productivity, growth and overall sustainability,” Uys said.

With a vast knowledge of, and great wealth of experience, in  all aspects of tyre production, Dowling who joined Continental Tyre SA in 1999 as a Curing Technologist in the Product Industrialization department immediately on completion of his studies in Rubber Technology, has occupied various positions within the Quality, Plant Operations and Production Management departments of the company.

In 2012,  Dowling moved over to Continental Tyre Alor Setar Malaysia as Production Manager, and since April 2013,  he was the Plant Manager until he was recruited back to South Africa at the beginning of this year to run the Port Elizabeth plant.

“I’m delighted to be back in Port Elizabeth where I grew up, and where my career with Continental started,” Dowling said. “We have a great team at Continental Tyre SA and I look forward to continuing this journey with them as we focus on maximizing our potential, and delivering the highest standards of product quality and efficiency for the company.”
