Chevrolet Ute Force Heads To Namibia

One World Futbol, Dreamfields Project and the Chevrolet Ute Force deliver soccer dreams to 12 schools in Windhoek’s largest township

Soccer players from 12 schools in Windhoek recently honed their football skills in the Chevrolet Day of Play at the Katutura Youth Centre in the Katutura Township.

In partnership with Dreamfields Project and General Motors’ dealership group in Namibia, the Auas Motor Group, the soccer tournament aimed to bring schools together, unite communities and to enjoy soccer action with the Namibian Schools Sport Union (NSSU).

The participating teams received brand new soccer kit, soccer boots, and One World Futbols, the soccer balls that are ultra-durable and nearly indestructible.

According to Tim Hendon, Chevrolet brand manager, Chevrolet’s Day of Play is a rally for communities to unite and to bring the beautiful game of soccer to the heart of the community for everyone to enjoy. “Through Play, everyone’s possibilities can become beautiful realities,” said Hendon.

Chevrolet works with organisations like Dreamfields, soccer coaches and children in regions around the world to foster play by creating soccer leagues and hosting coaching clinics.  Hendon said today’s event is one of many that took place around the world in recent months. “In the last two years Chevrolet has brought play to over 30 million youth worldwide and we are grateful to have this opportunity in Namibia today,” he said.

Hendon explained that the One World Futbols that the teams received today are part of a one and a half million ball sponsorship in disadvantaged communities. “These balls are nearly indestructible and can endure the harsh surfaces our kids play soccer on and will not go flat.”

Gawie Koekemoer, Auas Motors Director Sales and Marketing, said the success of today’s tournament is largely attributed to the collaboration with Chevrolet, the Dreamfields Project and the NSSU.

“Seeing the enthusiasm of so many youngsters and the enjoyment and excitement the game of football brings to all, shows the success of the Day of Play. We are honoured to have been part of it,” Koekemoer said.
