Coming right on the heels of the launch of the Ghana Made initiative with Volkswagen, Carpentree, a leading Ghanaian carpentry business focused on producing and installing kitchen cabinets and wardrobes, recently started the training of 25 artisans at WestPark’s modern industrial facilities.

The artisans, many from communities surrounding the WestPark, received an introduction to a range of professional power tools from German company, Bosch, that are designed to enhance quality and productivity in the woodworking trade.

Carpentree is seeking to grow their operations in Ghana with a base at the WestPark to make high-quality products with locally sourced, sustainable timber from Ghana’s Western Region.

Carpentree’s founder, Kobe Asiedu, said: “the level of interest and the skills already present in the Western Region were encouraging.”

He added that his company can build on this to create more direct employment at Carpentree and indirect jobs throughout their supply and distribution chains in this growing region.

“We look forward to leveraging WestPark’s world class industrial infrastructure and the support from the community to launch our next range of Ghana made cabinets and wardrobes,” he said.

The carpentry and building materials sector is one of the strategic industries WestPark is looking to attract where businesses in Ghana can effectively compete with imports by adding value to Ghana’s indigenous resources.

Last year, Ghana exported over $250 million of largely unprocessed timber and imported close to $240 million in furniture.

This October, WestPark is offering special incentives for small and medium-sized businesses in the manufacturing and processing sector looking to grow their operations.

Already breaking new ground for companies to produce goods locally and do business more easily with West Africa’s growing markets, the new enclave, featuring industrial, commercial and residential zones, eliminates many of the challenges – including access to reliable power, water and transport – that often confront companies in Sub-Saharan Africa, so tenants can focus on increasing production, creating jobs and growing their revenues.

As a leading platform for growth, WestPark is poised to accelerate the transformation of Takoradi, Ghana’s third-largest city, which has benefited from recent multi-billion dollar investments in gas, power, port and rail infrastructure.

WestPark’s first mover tenants reflect a diverse group of industrial companies committed to the West African market, creating good jobs, introducing world-leading technology and adding value to Ghana’s vast resources
