President of Coscharis Group, Dr. Cosmas Maduka, has been honoured for his commitment to academic and business excellence in the country as he was conferred with a honorary Doctorate Degree (Honoris Causa) recently by the Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti (ABUAD), Ekiti State.

The award was conferred on Maduka during the university’s fourth convocation ceremonies which held at the University premises in Ado Ekiti.

In his address at the occasion, the Vice Chancellor, ABUAD, Professor Michael Ajisafe, said the decision to honour the Coscharis Group President was in strict compliance with the 2012 Keffi Declaration. He noted that the University’s Council and Senate, after a strict, rigorous, thorough and merit-based selection process, approved the conferment of the award to Maduka, a consummate and first-class business mogul who, according to him, rose from obscurity to fame.

Maintaining that “the beauty of honourary degrees anywhere in the world is that they are awarded to persons who are deserving of such honours, having excelled in character, useful application of intellect and academic excellence,” the vice chancellor said : “In many cases, honourary degrees are rated higher than the degrees we study to obtain since so many other parameters other than academic excellence are considered before they are bestowed on persons deserving of them.”

Also speaking at the award ceremony, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the University Council, Prof. Iyoruwuese Hagher, a retired diplomat, said the award to Maduka was a privileged honour to the university, given his (Maduka’s) incessant commitments to mentoring youths towards turning every single challenge to opportunity.

The award is however seen by many Nigerians as another acknowledgement of the commitment of Coscharis Group’s leadership to excellence and delivery of quality products and services to customers as well as contributing to societal development and progress.

General Manager, Marketing and Corporate Communications, Coscharis Group, Abiona Babarinde, said “this is just one in a series of honorary awards received by Dr. Cosmas Maduka, who have overtime contributed to an array of endowment chairs, corporate sponsorships and government donations.”
