Magna rolls out first BMW 5 Series from Austria assembly

Canadian automotive giant, Magna International, which is also the world’s largest contract manufacturer of vehicles,  Thursday, rolled out the first unit of the BMW 5 Series produced from its  manufacturing assembly plant in Graz, Austria, according to Automotive News Canada, which also quoted Magna CEO Don Walker , as saying in a Feb. 24 conference call that the  production of the BMW 5 series is to be  followed by that of two Jaguar models and other  two unspecified vehicles.

“So, there’s lots going on in Graz over the next two-plus years,” Walker was quoted as saying . “This tremendous expected growth in assembly sales and volumes is a testament to Magna Steyr’s complete-vehicle expertise and the deep trust that OEMs have in Magna.”

According to Automotive News Canada, this is not the first time that the Canadian giant will be building for BMW as Magna built  the BMW X3 in 2003, followed by the MINI Countryman in 2010 and the MINI Paceman in 2012, adding that  JLR also signed a contract in July 2015 for Magna to build vehicles at Graz.

The All-new BMW 5 Series is currently being launched in South Africa .
