Papua New Guinea is welcoming innovations  as eco-tourism and connectivity led the agenda at the country’s third investment forum at the Dubai Expo .

Papua New Guinea Minister for Information and Communication Technology, Hon Timothy Masiu, declared  the 3rd investment forum open at the Expo2020 Pavilion. The  forum, which  focused on promoting the eco-tourism and ICT sectors of PNG to the world,  is one of the key programmes organised by the PNG expo team in Dubai. The forum coincided with the Dubai Expo , which had  “Travel and Connectivity” as theme.

PNG Minister for ICT, H.E. Masiu, acknowledged the creativity of the expo theme, “Connecting Minds and Creating the Future”, saying it signalled an era of new ideas and innovations to boost trade and investment, one of the keys focus of the PNG Government.

“Our culture and environmental diversity makes our country a most attractive destination for travelers, investors, explorers, scientists, and environmental enthusiasts. We do not have sufficient air connectivity to major world destinations, including the UAE and the Gulf States. Also domestically, we need roads, wharfs, air connectivity, and internet connectivity. Therefore, we need investors and experts to help us plan and sustainably deliver the connectivity system. We need partnerships for mutual gains, and we need plans that respect and are supportive of conserving our environment so that we can continue to live in balance with nature as part of the global agenda to save our planet from self-destruction,” the ICT Minister said.

The event attracted a number of key business and government officials from the UAE, PNG, The Pacific, and African countries, including the UAE Secretary-General and Chairman of the UAE Chamber of Commerce, H.E Humaid Ben Salem, who officiated at the event.

Salem ,in his statement, acknowledged that this was his second time to participate in an event organised by PNG during the Expo, and he was appreciative of PNG maximising its participation at the Expo through the hosting of such events. PNG also organised a roundtable discussion in December 2021 on education, science, and the green economy, which HE Salem was invited to visit and participate .

“Technology is driving the world and artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, fintech, blockchain and cloud computing among others, were controlling all sectors around the world,” Salem said.

He also said that “eco-tourism was a natural gift and PNG could use the Expo to expand its tourism development while sharing UAE natural and eco-tourism experiences such as deserts, sand dunes, mangroves, and beaches “.

The investment forum succeeded in enhancing the eco-tourism potential of  PNG and increased  the Middle East community’s awareness about  Papua New Guinea  and the Pacific as there was great  interest from different participants and speakers who highlighted PNG culture, heritage and natural resources .

PNG 3rd investment forum also welcomed innovations, considered as one of the most active business programmes during the Expo that welcomes new ideas and creative minds.

The  owner and founder, JAHEEN Group of Companies, Ms.. Noha Jaheen, who presented one of the top sustainable development strategies for the first time at the  Expo, exclusive on PNG s Investment Forum,   invited all to work smart and cooperate to become an effective player in the global energy transformation that gives  all a great chance to protect the  environment from global warming. The strategy received great interest and  attention from the PNG and the Pacific participating teams,.

” We can get out from this Expo huge cooperation that does not only take Papua New Guinea to the next level of development but also takes all the Pacific Islands to the next level of development,” Ms. Jaheen said, adding, ” always play it smart, not hard!”

Finally, the event wrapped up with gratitude to the speakers and those in  attendance, including  Mr. Joshua Kalinoe, Papua New Guinea Expo Commissioner General and Ambassador to Brussels and the European Union.
