The Nissan truck and SUV lineup is departing Texas truck country with a bed full of awards once again. Following two full days of evaluations at the annual Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA) Texas Truck Rodeo, the Nissan TITAN half-ton has been named “Full-size Truck of Texas” for the second straight year. The 2018 Nissan Rogue is “Compact SUV of Texas,” and its new ProPILOT™ Assist driver assistance system takes home “Best Technology” honors.

“We’re honoured to have the Nissan Rogue compact SUV and TITAN pickups recognized by the truck and SUV experts of the Texas Auto Writers Association,” said Billy Hayes, division vice president, LCV and Trucks, Nissan North America, Inc. “The Rodeo is a very unique event that allows journalists to test many vehicles back-to-back in a way they would not have been able to otherwise. It makes the honour even greater knowing our products rose to the top. Thanks to the members of TAWA for all of their hard work on this event.”

Texas Truck Rodeo, held at the 1,632-acre Longhorn River Ranch in Dripping Springs, Texas, includes strenuous on-road and off-road evaluations by members of the Texas Auto Writers Association, one of the most influential and recognized automotive journalist associations in the country. Nissan vehicles won a total of five awards, including:

  • “Full-size Truck of Texas” (second consecutive year) – Nissan TITAN Midnight Edition
  • “Compact SUV of Texas” – Nissan Rogue
  • “Best Technology” – Nissan ProPILOT Assist
  • “Commercial Vehicle of Texas” (second consecutive year) – Nissan TITAN King Cab with Rear Seat Delete
  • “Best Value” – TITAN King Cab (1st), TITAN PRO-4X (2nd), TITAN Platinum Reserve (3rd)

The 2018 Nissan Rogue and 2018 TITAN models begin arriving at Nissan dealers nationwide next week.

“For the third year in a row, TAWA journalist have recognized the new TITAN’s tremendous value that sets the benchmark,” said Nic Phillips, president of TAWA. “The standard V8 engine and longest bumper-to-bumper warranty adds up to a package that should be on every Texan’s short list.”

The Nissan TITAN half-ton is offered in a roomy Crew Cab body in both 4×4 and 4×2 configurations and in five well-equipped grade levels: S, SV, PRO-4X, SL and Platinum Reserve – each powered by the 5.6-liter Endurance® V8 gasoline engine. In addition to the Crew Cab model, TITAN Single Cab and King Cab models are also offered. For 2018, a new Midnight Edition featuring a special “blackout” exterior treatment is available on TITAN Crew Cab SV and SL grade 4×4 and 4×2 models.

All 2018 TITAN and TITAN XD models are covered by Nissan’s recently announced “America’s Best Truck Warranty”2 – featuring bumper-to-bumper coverage of 5 years/100,000 miles, whichever comes first.

The Nissan Rogue, already the number one selling Nissan model, added an all-new Rogue Sport model mid-year, strengthening both total Rogue sales and the Rogue brand. For 2018, in addition to ProPILOT Assist, every Rogue offers NissanConnect featuring Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, along with standard Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB).

Nissan ProPILOT™ Assist was named “Best Technology” of Texas. ProPILOT Assist2 is the foundation for the autonomous vehicles of the future, helping drivers maintain lane control, navigate stop-and-go traffic, maintain a set vehicle speed and maintain a set distance to the vehicle ahead – all with a simple two-button operation. ProPILOT Assist is available on the 2018 Rogue SL grade as part of the Platinum Package, with an expected starting price under $35,000 when it hits dealer lots later this month.

About TAWA

The Texas Auto Writers Association, Inc. was founded in 1985 by automotive journalists who wanted to provide an avenue of professional growth, development and networking. These professionals sought to create an automotive event that was unique to Texas, and the result was the TAWA Truck Rodeo. Since 1992, Truck Rodeos have been held in San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, Granbury and Spring Branch. In 2003, TAWA created an event for sedans, sports cars, and other vehicles not eligible for the Truck Rodeo. The Texas Auto Roundup, as the event is called today, is held at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth.
