NIA DONATES 2,000 MOBILE VERIFICATION DEVICES FOR VEHICLE REGISTRATION

The Director-General, Nigeria Insurers Association (NIA), Mr. Sunday Thomas, has said that 2,000 Mobile Verification Devices have been donated to the state governments to enhance vehicle registration and insurance renewal processes.

Thomas said this was part of the association’s gesture to eliminate fake insurance documents in the system.

He said that the amount represented devices donated by the association between 2015 till date.

Thomas said this was achieved with the collaboration of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), adding that many states of the federation had been reached.

He, however, said that six states were reached through collaboration with other agencies.

“Apart from the synergy with the FRSC, six states were reached through collaboration with other agencies.

“Some of the states are: Ondo, Oyo, Ogun and Lagos, among others,’’ he said.

He said that with the new technology, there would be no need for paper certificates, which were often times fake.

“This will check the activities of fraudsters, who duped unsuspecting members of the public on vehicle insurance papers.

“It is our belief that all the states that accessed these devices would utilise the opportunity.

“We expect them to entrench the enforcement of genuine insurance culture in their motor administration processes for social and economic benefits of the states’’, he said.

Reacting to the influx of fake insurance practitioners, Thomas said that the NIA was not relenting in its efforts to eradicate touting from the system.

He urged Nigerians to report the activities of person or persons suspected to be issuing fake policies to the appropriate authorities.

Thomas said that this would help reduce the influx of fake insurance policies in Nigerian market and enhance robust revenue for the industry. (NAN)
