All-new MINI Countryman to storm Nigeria with 50 units

Newly-revealed second generation MINI Countryman will soon arrive Nigeria and other markets in the sub-Saharan Africa Region of the BMW Group. For the Nigerian market, no fewer than 50 units of the completely and newly-developed car will be made available , in the first instance, within the next couple of months, as the car makes a stylish entry into the premium luxury car segment market.

Edward Makwana, Group Product Manager, BMW Group South Africa and BMW sub-Saharan Africa Region, disclosed this, Thursday evening in Durban, South Africa, while introducing the newly-enhanced MINI Countryman at a media briefing preceding a road test  of the most versatile model of the MINI Countryman scheduled for this Friday. 

Describing the second generation MINI Countryman as the biggest and most versatile model in the brand’s 57-year history, Makwana said the car now reflects considerable advancements in the areas of space, functionality, athletic flair and premium characteristics.

Assuring that the BMW Group South Africa will give all the needed back-up support to its dealerships across the newly-created BMW sub-Saharan Africa Region made up of seven countries, including Nigeria, Angola, Ghana, Togo and three others, to ensure the success of the newly-enhanced MINI Countryman, Makwana said , at launch, there are two petrol and one diesel engines of the latest generation available to choose from, each with MINI TwinPower Turbo Technology. They are the MINI Cooper Countryman, MINI Cooper S Countryman, and MINI Cooper D Countryman .

According to Makwana, who, along with Thando Pati, Product Group Manager, MINI, explained what makes the new MINI Countryman, which is coming with an all-wheel drive for the first time, tick, the MINI Cooper Countryman features a 3-cylinder petrol engine, capacity: 1 499 cc, output: 100 kW, max. torque: 220 Nm while the  MINI Cooper S Countryman comes with 4-cylinder petrol engine, capacity: 1 998 cc, output: 141 kW, max. torque: 280 Nm.


The MINI Cooper D Countryman on its own features a 4-cylinder diesel engine, capacity: 1 995 cc, output: 110 kW, max. torque: 330 Nm. Makwana also disclosed that as an alternative to the standard 6-speed manual transmission, a 6-speed Steptronic transmission is also offered for the new MINI Cooper Countryman while an 8-speed Steptronic transmission is available for the new MINI Cooper S Countryman.
