‘We all wear clothes’ – an apt assumption by the conceptualisers of “Threads”, an accelerator programme for local fashion entrepreneurs in South Africa, sponsored by Standard Bank.  If there is one thing consumers have in common, whether African, Asian or European, it’s clothes: we all wear clothes.

“In a fast and ever changing fashion industry, where designers have influence over trends and also the socio-economic environment, Mercedes-Benz South Africa is delighted to partner with Threads in this unique and exciting accelerator programme.  As a brand, we are most excited about the opportunity this project creates in light of our fashion platform.

“This project is sustainable, going from concept to skills development, business acumen to the shop floor.  Threads represents a well-thought-out initiative as it adds to the knowledge base of fashion entrepreneurs worldwide through its e-learning platform,” said Mayur Bhana, Brand Marketing Manager, Mercedes-Benz Cars.

“The winning entrepreneur can look forward to starting their business in true style, with a class-leading model from the Mercedes-Benz range as we will provide mobility for one year,” added Bhana.

Over the past 22 years, Mercedes-Benz has established itself globally as an important player and partner of select fashion events. The brand globally is currently involved in more than 60 fashion platforms, including the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Weeks in Australia, Mexico, Spain, China and South Africa. As part of its global involvement in fashion, for the past eight years, Mercedes-Benz has supported young, talented fashion designers, also with the Mercedes-Benz International Designer Exchange Programme. It offers up-and-coming and established designers a unique opportunity to present their collections outside their home markets to an international audience. Mercedes-Benz is committed to promoting, supporting and mentoring promising design talents and the International Designer Exchange Programme underpins this brand commitment.
