IRF Global Creates Two Additional Operational Offices for Africa

The International Road Federation (IRF) Global has announced the opening of two additional operational offices to serve its members and stakeholders in Africa. The two additional locations, which are coming in the wake of a highly successful 2nd IRF Africa Regional Congress, will service IRF members and road stakeholders in West/Southern Africa, and East/Central Africa respectively, according to the September edition of IRF Notes, a monthly newsletter of the global not-for-profit organisation, headquartered in Washington, DC .

“For seven decades, IRF has assisted countries in progressing towards better, safer and smarter road systems. The expansion of our regional operations on the African continent serves this goal well and will ensure world-class knowledge resources, advocacy services, and continuing education programs continue to be available to Africa’s rising generation of transport sector leaders”  IRF Chairman, Eng. Abdullah Al-Mogbel, said.

A newly-created IRF operations for East/Central Africa will operate from Nairobi, Kenya with  Clarence Karot, a civil engineer with a 15-year track record supporting road agencies, as the head.

”I am pleased to join IRF at this time when African Governments are investing in construction of strategic infrastructure aimed at increasing and easing movement of goods and services within itself. I believe that IRF will continue to play a critical role in imparting and dissemination of knowledge & information so critical in ensuring that creative decisions as to investments and management of the infrastructure are made to overcome the challenges of limited resources,” Karot said.

Patrick Bekoe, a professional geotechnical engineer with a doctorate in civil engineering, will coordinate IRF operations for West/Southern Africa, from Accra, Ghana.

“I am elated and grateful to join the IRF as the Western and Southern Africa Regional Operations Manager. It is like being adopted into a global family of transportation professionals. I look forward to contribute my quota towards the transformational agenda of Africa in Building Better Roads and a Better World,” Bekoe said.

IRF President & CEO, Mr. C. Patrick Sankey, explained the rationale for adding the two new locations for Africa.

“IRF has long been a development partner to Africa’s road agencies and a source of knowledge for African road professionals. Today and for the foreseeable future, the needs have never been greater for skilled frontline personnel and managers able to formulate, plan, and manage Africa’s highway infrastructure programs. Clarence and Patrick’s professional backgrounds and skills are an asset to IRF and to our members in the region. The energy and commitment they bring meet a continent in need of fresh ideas as it endeavours to address 21st-century mobility and connectivity challenges,” he stated.

A global not-for-profit organisation, headquartered in Washington, DC since 1948, IRF Global is supported by regional offices throughout the world and serves a network of public and private sector members in more than 70 countries by providing world-class knowledge resources, advocacy services, and continuing education programs which together offer a global marketplace for best practices and industry solutions.
