Imperial, Hyundai Partner Bakwena Again for Safe Holiday Motoring

Imperial and Hyundai Automotive South Africa are, again, partnering with the Bakwena N1N4 concessionaire to drive and promote road safety awareness and provide additional patrol support on the N1 and N4 routes this holiday season.

This partnership comes in the wake of calls by the Minister of Transport, Joe Maswanganyi, that “road safety is not negotiable and it is everyone’s responsibility”.

Berenice Francis, Group Commercial Executive at Imperial, said: “There is no denying that the state of road safety in South Africa is of great concern, and as a leader in mobility, our partnership with Hyundai Automotive South Africa and the Bakwena N1N4 concessionaire provides us with a great opportunity to get directly involved in continuing our drive to make road safety a priority both during the year and again, during this holiday period.

“Our partnership with the N1N4 Bakwena concessionaire dates back to 2012. It has grown from strength to strength, and more importantly, it has created safer roads for travellers during periods of heightened risk on the roads”.

Earlier this year, Hyundai Automotive South Africa jumped on board as the official vehicle sponsor. As part of this role again this season, Hyundai handed over six vehicles to Bakwena N1N4, to be used in December and January during the peak holiday season. The vehicles will be used to increase and boost route surveillance, patrol support and roadside assistance on this route.

Historically , the Bakwena N1N4 toll route has experienced some of the highest volumes of traffic nationwide, which makes it imperative that officials doing duty on the rout have adequate resources to support motorists travelling effectively.

Charmaine van Wyk, public relations officer for Bakwena, said: “It takes a great effort to be able to create a safe transport passage for road users, particularly when the incidence of road crashes are at their highest. We are most grateful for the ongoing support received from Imperial Road Safety and Hyundai Automotive South Africa to enable Road Incident Management Services to meet the road safety needs of motorists over this time.”

As with previous years, the Bakwena N1N4 toll route will also adopt an uncompromising approach to drinking and driving, speeding and general road negligence. To do this effectively, they will be working closely with traffic authorities to carry out regular enforcement along this route.

“The success of our previous involvement in this initiative reinforced the importance of combined efforts in addressing South Africa’s road safety problems. We look forward to witnessing the significant contribution that it will make in the lives of road users during this period,” said Oscar Makola, marketing director at Hyundai Automotive South Africa.
