Goodyear Appoints Hayes-Powell new Managing Director for South Africa

Darren Hayes-Powell has been appointed as the new Managing Director of Goodyear South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa. Hayes-Powell, who is expected to resume duties in November, will be taking over from Jean-Jacques Wiroth, who will continue in his role until the end of October, facilitating the transition and onboarding process of Hayes-Powell.

Hayes-Powell joined Goodyear in 2008 and is currently the Vice President Finance Global Operations. He started his career at Goodyear as the Finance Director of UK before moving to Asia, first in support of the new factory built in China then as the Vice President of Finance for Asia. His most recent role has been to lead the construction of Goodyear’s new manufacturing facility in Mexico whilst having dual responsibilities leading the Finance function for Global Goodyear Operations and Technology.

Wiroth, who first arrived in the South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa operations on assignment eight and half years ago, will be embarking on a new assignment at Goodyear in Europe.

In his term in the South Africa and Sub-Saharan operations, Wiroth has been instrumental in driving positive growth in the Company. He was responsible for securing, overseeing and implementing the largest investment the Uitenhage plant has received to date.

“I am confident that this is the right time for me to exit the Goodyear South Africa operations as it is well equipped with the necessary tools to continue as a key player in the market. My successor, Darren Hayes-Powell, brings a wealth of experience to the region. He has served in key roles of increasing responsibility at the country, regional and corporate levels and I believe he will be a key member in accelerating the implementation of our local, regional and global strategic goals and take the Company even further,” said Wiroth.
