It was a promise fulfilled, Wednesday, 20 December 2017, as Coscharis Motors, handed over a brand-new Ford Figo, worth N5million, to 22-year-old Nnajiuku Clinton, a Corps member with Eko Electric Distribution Company (EKDC), for winning the 2017 Jumia Black Friday Promo sponsored by the leading Nigeria auto dealership and sole distributor of Ford brand of vehicles in the country.

The highly-elated winner was full of smiles as he received the keys to the new car from officials of Coscharis and Jumia Nigeria  at a presentation ceremony held at the Coscharis Ford office on Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.

“This is real, I’m confidently telling Nigerians that the Jumia Black Friday Promo is real and not fake,” he declared to the admiration of journalists present at the ceremony even as he explained how he got into the promo and how the news of his emergence as the winner of a Ford Figo was broken to his father, who, initially, expressed doubt over the news.

Speaking at the ceremony, General Manager, Marketing & Corporate Communications, Coscharis Group, Abiona Babarinde, said Coscharis Motors was excited to have partnered Jumia in delivering the 2017 Black Friday Sales promo.

“We will always seek new ways to delight our customers and give them value for their money, no matter the platform on which they wish to patronise us, online or offline, ”  he added.

Stressing that Jumia’s online platform has really helped Coscharis Motors  fulfill that desire, Babarinde provided a background information on the partnership between the two “great brands.”

“This whole event started in the latter part of quarter three of this year when Coscharis Motors Plc and Jumia signed a partnership agreement to put a Ford Figo on the line as the star prize for the 2017 Jumia Black Friday promo, to be won via a raffle draw by customers who make up to N5,000 shopping on Jumia’s online platform,” he explained.

“The fact that the promo was greeted with massive patronage, in a market which has developed cold feet towards such promos, due to failure by some firms to deliver on their promise, speak volumes concerning the amount of confidence reposed on both Coscharis and Jumia by the market. Thus, we are gathered here today to witness the fulfillment of our promise to give away the prize to the winner of the promo.”

Babarinde added that the partnership with Jumia is “work in progress” as the two leading brands look forward to exploring more areas of cooperation with time with the aim at leveraging on each other’s strength.

Speaking earlier at the ceremony that was moderated by the Brand Manager, Coscharis Ford, Felix Mahan, Head of Partnerships and Payment Solutions, Jumia Nigeria, Omolara Ajele, explained what informed the decision of her company to partner Coscharis Motors on the 2017 edition of the Jumia Black Friday Sales promo.

“It started six months before the Black Friday as we wanted to do something differently,” Ajele disclosed as she confirmed that the experiment had paid off. “This is just the beginning as we intend to take this partnership to the next level and may surprise Nigerians with a bigger reward for the winner of the next edition.”

Also speaking at the occasion, Ojuola Asuquo, of the Engagement and Partnerships Department of Jumia Nigeria said her team worked unrelentingly to convince Coscharis Motors that the partnership would result in mutual benefits, a point that was also corroborated by Babarinde.

Babarinde, who later congratulated the winner, took him through what he described as the exciting features of the Ford Figo.

“Whether you live in the city or out in the country, there’s a big wide world waiting out there. And what better way to explore it than in a Figo? With power-assisted steering and your choice of a 1.4L gasoline engine with manual gearbox (which is the one you are driving away today) or a 1.6L gasoline engine with an automatic transmission, Figo is ideal for getting out and about – particularly as it’s also capable of covering up to 100 kilometers using just 4.9 liters of fuel.

“Though compact on the outside for easy maneuvering and parking, Figo is a genuine 5-seater with plenty of space inside – and each rear seat has its own safety belt. From the moment you slide behind the wheel and cast your eyes around, you can hardly fail to be impressed by what you see.

“Figo comes with a tilt steering column which helps you get just the right driving position. Air conditioning and an AM/FM stereo/single-CD player with MP3 capability, etc, keep you cool and entertained.

“Figo has been designed to help you avoid an accident or reduce the potential consequences if a collision is unavoidable. The available Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) helps you maintain control during emergency evasive maneuvers, making it easier to steer around any obstacles in your path. Driver and front-passenger front airbags combine with the safety belts to enhance protection for front-seat occupants during a frontal collision. The bodyshell is designed to help divert impact forces away from the rigid passenger safety cell.

“There are loads of other interesting feature on the Ford Figo, however, space will not permit me to mention them all, “ Babarinde stated.
